A new community update
- by Ben Kerry
If you’ve been following Black Ops 6 and the recent Call of Duty landscape lately, you might have noticed a bit of negativity within the community. During the holiday season, it seems numerous issues have arisen regarding online servers, cheaters, and similar concerns – and developer Treyarch has now addressed these challenges directly.
In a recent community blog post, the team has specified what alterations are underway as Black Ops 6 transitions into Season 2. Regarding cheaters, the anti-cheat team states it has “enhanced detection systems for behavioral patterns, including aim botting,” and has introduced new warning measures for players who often partner up with cheaters. The team also reports that 136,000 accounts have been banned since the launch of Ranked Play.
“In December, we announced that we are implementing significant upgrades to the current online and active kernel-level driver for Season 02, alongside enhancements to server-side systems in early 2025.”
If you have been experiencing server issues in Black Ops 6 as well, the team is listening. They have been “closely monitoring match activity” and the folks at Demonware have made “new enhancements to Call of Duty’s server infrastructure this week to mitigate targeted incidents of malicious activities affecting our infrastructure and players.” The team has also resolved some server problems in areas where connection instability has been a recurring concern.
Eventually, the COD team will be modifying crossplay – a hot topic we recently discussed in a Pure Xbox feature. For Ranked Play, Treyarch plans to “enable the option to disable crossplay for console players wanting to compete solely against other console players” – effectively filtering out PC gamers. This appears to focus on Ranked Play for the time being, but we hope this change will extend to all online playlists in the future.
These felt like the key highlights in this significant COD community update, but there’s plenty more to explore, including further details on the aforementioned issues, some detailed bug fix breakdowns, and what players can expect from the game moving forward.
