Following the remarkable success of 2025’s A Minecraft Movie, the source Deadline has verified that A Minecraft Movie 2 is now officially in development – and it’s set to hit theatres in summer 2027.
Jared Hess is back to direct the forthcoming sequel, with Hess and Chris Galletta collaborating on the script. The source describes the screenplay as “under wraps” as preparations commence for the second Minecraft film.
Deadline also highlights Mary Parent and Cale Boyter as the film’s producers, with Roy Lee, Eric McLeod, Kayleen Walters, Torfi Frans Ólafsson and Jason Momoa also being part of the production crew. The official poster for A Minecraft Movie 2 has been released as well, which we’ll include below:
Despite a varied critical reception, the initial Minecraft movie performed exceptionally well – it earned $157m in its opening weekend as reported by CNN at that time. It’s reasonable that a sequel is on the way, and we’ll have to observe how this one fares both critically and financially when it premieres in a few years.
