Microsoft has enacted numerous price hikes for the Xbox Series X and S over recent years, with a new report indicating that this may not be the conclusion of current-gen Xbox price increases.
Emerging from Moore’s Law Is Dead on YouTube — a tech insider previously discussed here — it seems Microsoft has not anticipated potential RAM price surges that may arise from a new agreement formed between OpenAI and various manufacturers. The YouTuber mentions that Sony, for instance, has amassed RAM resources at a reduced price, while Microsoft has not adopted a similar strategy.
Furthermore, with this OpenAI arrangement consuming up to 40% of the global DRAM supply from the market for other purchasers, this could present challenges for any firm that requires it for production; particularly Microsoft. At the time of publishing, no price increases have been confirmed by Xbox, yet Moore’s Law Is Dead suggests Series X|S pricing “might rise shortly, or availability could simply diminish completely.” Microsoft “apparently failed to plan ahead,” the YouTuber asserts.
