Series S offers a significantly enhanced experience!

Nintendo Switch 2 is now available, and after being on the market for about a month, the system has experienced varied outcomes in terms of third-party interactions. While developers like Koei Tecmo recently stated that the hybrid console is quite similar to Xbox Series S, the outcomes thus far haven’t consistently aligned – and a new Hogwarts Legacy comparison from Digital Foundry reveals the Microsoft console in a far more favorable position than its Nintendo counterpart.
In a comprehensive examination on the game’s fresh port, DF displays the Harry Potter adventure on both Switch 2 and Series S, while additionally incorporating some last-gen PS4 comparisons. It turns out, the new Switch 2 edition is significantly closer to Sony’s previous-gen system than Microsoft’s all-digital Xbox – at least with Hogwarts Legacy.
Here are some summarizing remarks from the DF team regarding how all the systems compare:
“The current-gen console versions — even represented by the relatively modest Series S — outperform the Switch 2 by some distance. Despite having a smaller RAM pool, the Series S boasts superior assets, and features a wide array of settings enhancements. I don’t think gamers necessarily anticipated Switch 2 to rival Microsoft’s less powerful current-gen console, but it does lag behind by a considerable margin.”
While the hybrid aspect of Switch 2 has never positioned Xbox Series S as a direct adversary, it’s undoubtedly the closest current-gen console, so we’re quite taken aback by the noticeable disparity in quality here. The Switch 2 iteration is a significant improvement over Switch 1, but Series S clearly still delivers a much more contemporary experience in the technology sector.
Nevertheless, we found this to be quite an intriguing comparison – and it genuinely highlights just how much value an Xbox Series S console possesses in today’s market. That said, Switch 2 continues to be an exciting piece of technology, and we earnestly hope Microsoft keeps supporting the system beyond its initial release slated for later this month.
