In addition to other PC marketplaces

There has been significant dialogue over the last several months regarding the possibility of the inclusion of Steam within the next Xbox console – it appears Microsoft is indeed exploring this option.

According to a report by Windows Central today, editor Jez Corden has indicated that not only Steam, but also various “PC marketplace operators” have engaged in talks with Microsoft about establishing a presence on Xbox consoles in the future.

“From my perspective, I can confirm that Xbox has been in discussions with PC storefront operators, including Valve from Steam, about what this could potentially entail. There have been other speculations that complete integration is even undergoing testing, though I would approach that claim cautiously for the time being.”

As observed, Jez refrains from implying that this notion has been thoroughly tested but appears fairly assured that it has been a topic of conversation between Microsoft and numerous other entities.

However, he does express skepticism about why Microsoft would pursue this initially, highlighting that the Xbox Store could undoubtedly face challenges as a consequence. There remain many “unresolved inquiries” at this point, as he elaborates.

It will take some time before we discover the outcome, but this is undeniably intriguing! The year 2027 seems to be the aim for the next Xbox console and the inaugural handheld device, so stay tuned – the forthcoming generation could indeed appear very distinct.
