Xbox Insiders Can Now Remove Tiles On The Dashboard, And It Looks Weird

What about those advertisements, Microsoft?

Earlier this month, Microsoft revealed a series of new functionalities for the Xbox dashboard, including the option to eliminate certain tiles from the main screen to create additional space. Well, The Verge’s Tom Warren has now demonstrated this functionality through the Xbox Insider program – it looks somewhat strange if we may say.

Essentially, it appears that the present version of this feature permits users to decrease the home screen tile count to four, down from the default of nine tiles. This subsequently leaves the first four tiles from the left visible; forming some empty area to the right of the dashboard.

Here’s their illustration of that in operation:

While we are definitely keen to see more of our Xbox backgrounds — particularly when they appear as impressive as this recent DOOM: The Dark Ages example — it seems there’s undoubtedly a more efficient way to rearrange things here. The substantial gap on the right adjacent to the stacked tiles on the left simply looks peculiar!

Naturally, there will also be further discussions about whether we can free up some of that ad space at the bottom of the dashboard – although this is an aspect that Microsoft has appeared hesitant to modify for some time now. Currently, this feature is solely accessible to Alpha Skip-Ahead Insiders, and it might undergo revisions before it becomes widely available in the coming weeks.
