Expedition 33 is not even included in the Console GoTY list. That alone renders these awards meaningless.

South of Midnight would receive my vote for its soundtrack. Unfortunately, the rest of the game didn’t resonate with me.

I would like to see Blue Prince succeed.

South of Midnight’s OST > Expedition 33’s OST.

That’s my bold statement.

I foresee Xbox possibly clinching one or two awards here – Troy Baker’s portrayal of Indiana Jones is remarkable, and perhaps Best Remake/Remaster, with 3 out of the 6 games up for consideration.

For the other categories they are nominated in, I would be astonished if different games didn’t take home the prizes…

A majority of these nominations are quite well considered, and I could envision Xbox winning numerous awards—but how in the world is the glitchy, utterly flawed Oblivion Remastered nominated for ‘Best Remake/Remaster’? It’s a cinch for ‘Worst Performance’.

I concur, SoM was such an extraordinary audio and visual journey (slightly repetitive in combat), yet there’s stiff competition for OST with Clair Obscur, which I found hauntingly stunning and lingered in my mind longer.

How is it possible that Gears of War: Reloaded is nominated for a Best Remaster award? It was executed so poorly. Merely enhancing its performance

Just because it could have been sent out with an update if it wasn’t also launched on the PlayStation, does not imply it was an impressive remaster. The AI that managed Dom was entirely flawed, an utter chaos. It’s an enjoyable game, certainly, and I had a good time playing it twice to acquire all the single-player accolades, but if it receives Best Remaster, then we understand where the funds from the Game Pass subscription surge have gone; it’s enriching the judges of this farce…

Battlefield 6 isn’t even released and has nominations

I’m pleased they have a best remaster category. I wish the larger game awards would incorporate that too. In my opinion, that’s the way to proceed

The best remake category will be intriguing; the Metal Gear remake was excellent but, similar to Oblivion, the performance isn’t optimal!

@M20B25 keep in mind, no preorders… it’s astonishing it has nominations, perhaps it’s based on the beta, haha

In my humble opinion, Expedition 33 should have been nominated for GOTY.
This game and South of Midnight are my favorites from this year so far.

The absence of Expedition 33 from the GotY nominations renders these awards a complete farce and mockery of an event.

Awards for games are intrinsically ridiculous.

Sonic Racing Crossworlds nominated for Console Game of the Year? Unbelievable.

It’s too early for GotY. October is packed.

I hope Xbox triumphs for the Minecraft movie, and I guess we can recognize Xbox for that OD trailer. I appreciated many of the first-party titles, but they’ve almost universally been 7/10s for me, lacking anything GotY worthy. There are some truly perplexing selections in this roster.

I wish for South of Midnight to triumph. That game completely captivated me until I finished it. Such a delightful journey.

I adore South of Midnight, and its soundtrack is exquisite. I hope it prevails in that category.

@Weebleman I had the same thoughts about South of Midnight; the gameplay felt quite basic at best (with some standout boss encounters). Yet, the acting was solid and the soundtrack was remarkable. It’s unfortunate it lacks a chance in its category against Expedition 33.

@somnambulance “Sonic Racing Crossworlds nominated for Console Game of the Year? This is absurd.” It appears you’re shocked that the games on this list exist merely because it’s “Sonic,” rather than the quality of the games themselves.
Metacritic – 82-88
Metacritic User – 9.1
IGN – 9/10
Steam – 10/10
And the genuine word of mouth for this is REALLY substantial. It’s no wonder CrossWorlds has made it here; you should conduct your own investigation, my friend.

Why do we have 2 distinct GOTY categories, and why isn’t E33 included in either? Ridiculous.

The only commendable awards event was DICE, and even that has seen a decline over the last 5 years.

I regard Oblivion as the remake of the year. Similar to many titles that perform poorly on other platforms this generation, it was nearly impeccable on XSX with VRR when I played it, and I am someone who notices frame drops acutely.

@Titntin Indeed, I believe 33 will take the prize. Which isn’t necessarily a bad outcome, of course. I just cherished the atmosphere of South of Midnight, and that largely stems from the audio for me. It was an adequately paced game, or as some might say, a solid gamepass title, but I wished it had a bit more substance if you know what I mean.

Boss battles are the exception as you’ve mentioned. Some delightful segments in there.

@DippleHonk It holds an 83 on OpenCritic. There are literally numerous games that possess a higher overall critical rating than Sonic Crossworlds.

I can’t be labeled as anti-Sonic. Lol. Sonic Frontiers was among my favorite titles of 2022, even if people were criticizing it harshly. I even relished the virtual novel murder mystery game Team Sonic released a couple of years prior. I am undoubtedly supportive of Sonic receiving more affection. I’m not astonished it’s up there because it’s Sonic, but due to the fact it hasn’t precisely been a trending game and also because it didn’t even surpass Mario Kart World in sales during its initial week.

And I mean, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 isn’t nominated over it? What? Come on now… I consider myself one of the staunchest critics of E33, yet even I would concede that game should have been on the GotY list.
