Xbox First-Party Release Barges Into Top-10 Played Games During Launch Week

In the United States, at least

Microsoft’s South of Midnight officially launched for Xbox Game Pass on April 8th, and in the initial week following its release, the Xbox first-party game surged into the top-10 most played titles on the platform.

Based on information provided by Circana’s Mat Piscatella, we can observe that SOM’s Game Pass debut boosted it to number nine on Xbox regarding total weekly active users in the US. This marked an improvement from 91st the previous week, when the game had been accessible only to those with early access at the tail end of the first week of April.

The second table from the left pertains to the Xbox platform:

Although South of Midnight seemed like a more subtle release relative to other recent Xbox first-party titles (such as Indiana Jones, Avowed among others), we consider this performance quite impressive overall. Obviously, the jump from 91st to 9th indicates how crucial an Xbox Game Pass launch was in attracting players to this specific game.

Regardless, this represents good news, especially for us at Pure Xbox HQ. Several team members have passionately expressed how much they appreciate this game – and we hope that favorable engagement statistics will lead to a positive response from Microsoft. Naturally, strong sales would also be welcomed, but South of Midnight embodies the kind of game that makes Xbox Game Pass an enticing and valuable service.
