South Of Midnight Gets Its Third Xbox Update, Here Are The Patch Notes

Just a little over 13GB on Xbox Series X

It has been only a week since South of Midnight debuted on Xbox consoles and PC, and it has already undergone three updates! The most recent update is now live across all platforms, and we’ve observed that it weighs in at a bit more than 13GB on the Xbox Series X specifically.

While there aren’t any significant changes in the patch notes, it’s noteworthy to see enhancements in performance, an emphasis on minimizing pop-in, new menu features for camera smoothing, and a bug fix targeting solely the Xbox Series S version.

For the attentive Pure Xbox community members who noted the game’s grammatical errors, those have also been corrected!

Here are the complete patch notes for South of Midnight update 1.2.0:

Quality of Life

  • In response to user feedback, introduced additional menu options for mouse and camera smoothing to enhance control customization.

Technical Enhancements

  • Resolved a crash occurring when moving from chapter 11 to chapter 12 (only on Xbox Series S).
  • Implemented targeted performance upgrades for gameplay and cutscenes.
  • Level of detail: Altered render distances for target objects to diminish popping (Kudzu, small flora, animals, etc.).

Gameplay

  • Corrected a problem where bottles failed to appear properly during the Huggin’ Molly boss battle in Chapter 9, specifically in Phase 3.
  • Fixed an issue where the player would not sustain damage from yarn drops when standing on a jar during the Chapter 9 Huggin’ Molly encounter.
  • Resolved a backtracking issue in Chapter 3 that impeded player progression (invisible wall during the first wall run).
  • Addressed a problem where the player could get immobilized near the Two-Toed Tom dive-out zone during the Chapter 5 boss encounter.
  • Fixed a glitch where Two-Toed Tom would not resurface in the Chapter 5 boss battle if the player fell into the water.
  • Fixed problems with missing mushrooms when playing on the lowest graphical settings in Chapter 10.
  • Rectified various collision blockers in Chapters 2, 10, and 11 that caused Hazel to navigate out of bounds or become stuck.
  • Addressed a rare situation where Weave would not hit a Haint during battle but still initiate the full cooldown, despite the ability not activating successfully.
  • Tackled an issue where Haints would sometimes vanish during combat.
  • Rectified the first Crouton upgrade (Crouton Detonation) which was missing its intended feature.
  • Fixed a problem where using the pull ability on a rock projectile during camera zoom-in would deactivate the weavable platform.
  • Adjusted an issue where the 14/19 readable couldn’t be collected coming from the left side of the weavable platform.
  • Corrected a bug where Hazel would enter a T-pose when grappling right after dismissing the puppet.
  • Fixed a glitch where VFX would stick to Hazel’s feet when entering or exiting Wall runs quickly.

Lighting

  • Modified HDR color balance in Chapter 5 to remedy oversaturation and brightness on lower-end HDR displays.
  • Resolved an issue where the fade to white in HDR would fade to a washed-out grey instead.
  • Corrected incorrect lighting issues affecting systems utilizing Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPUs.
  • The default key to exit menus has been modified from ‘Backspace’ to ‘Tab’.
  • Addressed an issue where pressing ‘Esc’ on a keyboard or the ‘Menu’ button on the Xbox controller failed to save remapped controls or custom difficulty settings when leaving menus.
  • Ensured keys are consistently displayed in English across all languages.
  • Tackled an issue where the “Applying changes in progress” message for graphics settings was not translated.
  • Fixed a problem where the input display would default to “Keyboard” on Xbox if no controller was detected upon launching the game.
  • Rectified an issue where unassigned controls would remain unassigned post-exiting the remapping menu, requiring players to remap them again.
  • Resolved an Xbox issue where enabling HDR would result in pop-ups appearing without a background, making them difficult to read.

Cinematics

  • Fixed a visual issue where one of Molly’s eyelids was out of alignment.
  • Enhanced the transition from the wound Restore cinematic to catfish Outro, eliminating camera and Hazel glitches.
  • Addressed a bug where Hazel’s facial expressions were absent, causing her to flicker during the Chapter 6 Cherie Tree cutscene.
  • Corrected a problem during the Lacey Argument cutscene where Hazel was mistakenly holding two right shoes.

Narrative & Localization

  • Fixed multiple localization errors across various languages, including missing and cut-off subtitles, as well as incorrect subtitle languages.
  • Corrected various typos and grammatical mistakes found in lore tabs, readable texts, and other in-game writings.

Audio

  • Implemented a range of audio corrections, including volume adjustments for better balance.
