Splitgate 2’s open beta launches
- by Liam Doolan
The portal-based arena shooter Splitgate was an unexpected success upon its initial release, yet its lifespan was ultimately truncated when the development team opted to concentrate on a sequel.
Now, following extensive trials, the open beta for Splitgate 2 is accessible on various platforms, including Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. Once again, players are thrown into arenas where they must teleport to outwit their adversaries.
With access to over 25 weapons, along with weapon customization, you can engage in more than 10 modes across 15+ maps (including custom maps). The Multi-Team-Mayhem modes allow up to 24 participants to engage in “full-scale warfare” on a new battlefield. Here’s a little more from Xbox’s site:
“Win From Any Angle: Conquer the rivalry with the ultimate tool: a portal gun. Ambush your adversaries and shift the balance of battle by portaling throughout the arena, or defy gravity to propel yourself for stunning aerial eliminations. Collaborate and Achieve Glory: Gather your friends and strive for the admiration of the entire universe. Dominate the Hotzone while your teammates fend off enemies portaling in from all directions. Stand united and overwhelm your rivals to secure the win and claim triumph.”
We went hands on with an earlier version of the game last year and had the chance to experience the revamped gameplay:
