Rapture allegedly involved

It has been a bit since we’ve received any solid updates on the forthcoming BioShock title, yet speculation has been circulating regarding this one for some time – and a new report today asserts that an announcement concerning the franchise is forthcoming.
According to source MP1st, publisher 2K is “readying an announcement pertaining to the BioShock franchise”, and that announcement “will take place quite soon, likely before the summer concludes”. It is suggested that this announcement may pertain to a new installment in the series, or potentially something in relation to the franchise’s Netflix project.
“At this juncture, we don’t possess clarity on what the announcement will entail. It could be the unveiling of preliminary details about one of the projects revealed a few years back, like BioShock 4 or the upcoming Netflix film. Some of the insights we’ve encountered also seem to indicate another scenario: a remake or a legitimate remaster of the original BioShock.”
Referring to that last aspect that hints at a possible BioShock remake, the report further specifies that “the city of Rapture will have a crucial role in the imminent announcement” – and the data gathered by the source includes “distinct references to the original 2007 BioShock”. A BioShock Collection debuted for Xbox back in 2016, featuring a more basic remaster of the original BioShock.
Even though ‘BioShock 4’ is referenced in the aforementioned quote there, so far at least, rumors have indicated a wholly different environment for the upcoming sequel – as opposed to being set in Rapture. Ultimately, this remains mere speculation for now so we’ll have to hold on to see what 2K has in store – but it has been quite a stretch since we’ve observed anything regarding this franchise, so let’s hope we receive some exciting BioShock updates sooner rather than later.
