Updated: Studio head confirms an Xbox version is coming later
Updated []: Moon Studios’ head Thomas Mahler has been answering questions on social channels today, stating that No Rest for the Wicked will reach Xbox sooner or later, though a PS5 debut “currently feels like the right move.”
A handful of his tweets are embedded further down:
Initial Report: The newest release from the creators of the acclaimed Ori saga—Moon Studios—is in early access on PC right now under the title No Rest for the Wicked, and fans are still hoping it’ll land on Xbox in the coming months.
When it hits consoles, though, it appears No Rest for the Wicked might launch exclusively on PS5, or share the stage with Nintendo Switch 2 only. Moon Studios CEO Thomas Mahler wrote on the game’s official Discord that a Microsoft box version could be sidelined “for the moment” owing to “prevailing market trends.”
Here’s the exact excerpt he posted a day or two ago:
“Just to clarify, given the way the market looks right now, we may stick to PS5 and maybe Switch 2 for now—conversations with MS will determine what makes the most sense for the Xbox crowd.”
Before panic sets in, remember that No Rest for the Wicked was locked in for both Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S way back in 2023, and programmers were still toiling away on the port as recently as last year.
Online chatter is already shouting that the project has been “axed” for Xbox—but the expression “for the moment” coupled with reports that the company will sit down with Microsoft imply an eventual release on Xbox, even if the timeline is hazy.
Hopefully the wait isn’t too lengthy; we’re eager to sink into this fresh action-RPG on Series X and S!
From the same team that earned accolades for Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps arrives No Rest for the Wicked, a tactile, precision-focused Action RPG set inside a gorgeous, hand-crafted realm. Trek through beautiful kingdoms and terrifying labyrinths while battling foes and colossal bosses that will push your strategy and combat prowess to the limit.
