Microsoft Celebrates As Xbox Vs. FTC Officially Comes To An End

The Activision Blizzard conflict has concluded

We never imagined we would witness this moment, but it has indeed arrived! Just after a recent setback in their battle against the Xbox Activision Blizzard acquisition, the FTC has declared today that it is withdrawing its case against Microsoft.

In its filing, the FTC remarked that “the public interest is best served by dismissing the administrative proceedings in this matter”, thus the complaint regarding the Activision Blizzard procurement has been officially annulled by the court.

Microsoft’s president Brad Smith then turned to social media to proclaim the news as a “win for gamers”:

Earlier this month, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals notified the FTC that it had failed to persuade them that Xbox’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard would “significantly reduce competition in the pertinent markets”.

It was anticipated that an additional appeal might ensue following that ruling, but the most probable result was that the FTC would withdraw the case – and indeed, that is what has transpired today.

If you require a recap of everything that unfolded with the FTC, we’ll provide a few relevant articles below!
