Instances from the US, UK, and AU/NZ discovered

We’re encountering numerous discussions online currently regarding a major retailer disposing of Xbox Series X|S inventory in various locales – including a comprehensive report on how the retail behemoth might be extracting its Xbox section entirely. We thought it would be prudent to explore all of this and ascertain the facts, particularly in light of Microsoft’s impending price hikes for consoles in the upcoming weeks.
To begin, let’s examine that report, shall we? Following recent findings about the retailer’s website withdrawing Xbox merchandise, GamesIndustry.biz conducted a bit more exploration – specifically, some in-person investigation at Costco UK. The website visited a location here in the UK today to discover no Xbox merchandise available, while PlayStation and Nintendo items were present in stock. The outlet then contacted another store to inquire about purchasing an Xbox Series X; to which the store replied, “we don’t actually have the Xbox anymore.”
“Utilizing Wayback Machine, we discovered that on June 11, 2025, Costco’s UK website featured the Xbox Series X for sale under its consoles category (as a members-only item). However, as of August 6, 2025, it was no longer available.”
Thus, it appears that — at least for the time being — the retail giant is retracting its Xbox stock in the US and UK, based on online and limited direct evidence. Intriguingly, the aforementioned report does indicate that UK retailer Currys is still offering these products, but how about other areas of the globe currently?
While we’re not witnessing as much definitive proof of the total withdrawal of Xbox products elsewhere, the last couple of days have brought forth some captivating reports regarding Series X and S stock. In New Zealand, Costco has again been observed retailing Series X consoles at an incredible 50% off, hinting that those Xbox shelves are also being cleared in that region of the world as well.
Now, while this situation does render the Xbox Series X|S outlook somewhat discouraging at this moment, we want to emphasize that this is limited evidence of inventory changes in specific regions at just one retailer – and it could even be a fleeting circumstance, especially in this sort of economy we all navigate presently. We’ve noticed similar occurrences arise online previously, with stores subsequently re-stocking Xbox merchandise later on.
Regardless, we’re observing this story gaining substantial attention online right now, so we believed it worthwhile to address and wanted to gather your opinions on the situation. We’ll be monitoring developments over the upcoming months to see how the inventory status evolves, particularly with the ROG Xbox Ally debuting next month.
