Together with several project cancellations from within Xbox HQ, some external initiatives have also been influenced by this week’s layoffs at Microsoft – including Romero Games and its now-shelved AAA FPS. Nevertheless, fortunately, it appears that Kojima Productions’ Xbox partnership is presently secure from cancellation.
This news originates from Windows Central, which addressed online speculation regarding OD with a report essentially affirming that the game is still under development at this time. Here’s a passage from the report that discusses the Hideo Kojima project:
“I can affirm that at least one of these projects is still alive,”
“I’ve encountered some conjecture online that this game might have also been impacted by the cutbacks, but our sources indicate that this is not true. At least for the moment.”
While we lack the complete details regarding Microsoft’s partnership with Kojima Productions on OD, we’d speculate that Xbox is providing substantial funding for its development and promotion. It’s often challenging to measure precisely how much capital and resources a platform holder invests in a collaboration like this, but whatever the total may be, the project seems secure for the time being.
Before we conclude here, another Xbox Game Studios collaboration in Contraband is also mentioned in this report. In response to individuals noticing that the game’s announcement trailer was recently pulled from the Xbox YouTube channel, WC’s Jez Corden states, “it has been communicated to me” that music licensing complications are responsible for this removal – even though it’s not the most favorable impression currently for the title developed by Avalanche Studios.
