Indie Dev Defends Xbox Game Pass As Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Sells Most On PS5

“It is very worth having your game on Game Pass”

It’s no secret that Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been doing very well for itself so far. On top of some incredible review scores, we just found out that the game has already sold one million copies in less than a week – even if the vast majority of UK physical sales were for PS5. Xbox Game Pass seems to be having an impact on sales then, but even so, a fellow indie dev has defended the service on social media this week.

In and amongst the drama surrounding Expedition 33’s sales split, Palworld community manager ‘Bucky’ has been sticking up for both the brand-new RPG and Microsoft’s Xbox Game Pass service. The Palworld dev says “it is very worth having your game on Game Pass” as fans “debate the viability” of the subscription model.

Of course, Bucky backs that stance up by claiming that he has “a little more knowledge on the topic than most” – which you can’t really argue with given their experience with Palworld. The Pokémon-like did amazingly well on the service last year – with Xbox Game Pass giving the title lots of exposure as it exploded in popularity.

Yesterday, we heard from Circana analyst Mat Piscatella that subscription services are “not THE future of gaming” like some first anticipated, but clearly, platforms like Xbox Game Pass can really help some development teams. It’s also great for us as fans too – XGP users have been treated to some incredible releases on the service so far in 2025.

How do you feel about this comment from the Palworld dev? Talk to us about it down below.
