Helldivers 2 finally arrived on Xbox several months ago, and the PlayStation-distributed shooter seemingly performed remarkably well on Xbox upon release. We observed significant player count increases, impressive sales numbers and noteworthy revenue gains originating from the port – and now the creators behind Sony’s successful co-op title are deep into crafting their next, likely multiplatform game.
As reported by Insider Gaming, Arrowhead Studios has advertised a new job opening for its forthcoming major endeavor. The game remains undisclosed as of now, but the studio seeks a senior system designer to “assist in developing the foundation of a fresh, unannounced project”.
Here’s the summary of that job opening:
“Join our mission in crafting the finest co-op action games globally! We’re in search of an adept Senior Systems Designer to become part of our expanding design department and aid in establishing the foundation of a novel, undisclosed project. This is your opportunity to contribute to a co-op action game from its inception. You’ll be central to constructing and refining the core systems, progression cycles, and combat essence characteristic of an Arrowhead Game.”
It’s not solely the evident success of Helldivers 2 on Xbox that’s piquing our interest in this upcoming project, either. Long before Arrowhead’s Xbox port was even announced, the team stated that their next game “is 100% self-funded” and that they dictate where it releases. With Helldivers 2 now on the Microsoft platform and appearing to perform well, we don’t see why this next title wouldn’t make its way here as well.
Naturally, publishing agreements can arise, and we’re not oblivious – strategies can shift rapidly in the gaming industry, and we’re not counting our eggs before they hatch just yet. Nevertheless, for the moment, it looks quite promising that this “brand-new co-op action game” will indeed arrive on Xbox when Arrowhead is prepared for launch; the team certainly seems optimistic about being fully in charge next time.
