Hades 2 Becomes 2025’s Highest-Rated New Game Ahead Of Eventual Xbox Release
The wait seems even more excruciating now
Hades 2 is officially set to launch for PC and Nintendo Switch on September 25th, and that signifies that the initial reviews have just commenced to go live – and it’s currently amassing an astonishing 94 average score on Metacritic.
The rating could shift as additional reviews come in, but for the moment, Hades 2 stands as the highest-rated new title of 2025 per Metacritic, placing it above titles like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, Split Fiction, and Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Here’s what just a handful of those Hades 2 evaluations are expressing thus far:
IGN (10/10)
“Hades 2’s visuals are stunning, its characters are enthralling, the combat is quick, enjoyable, endlessly diverse, and strategic, and the soundtrack is magnificent.”
Eurogamer (5/5)
“Supergiant’s innovative style of storytelling and roguelike creation has remained unharmed by the triumph of Hades: it has only strengthened it. The fact that the studio can still provide surprises after how rich and textured Hades was, and that I still find myself astonished by the ambition, the intricacy, the artistry, the technical skill, and the readiness to allow players to take charge some 60-plus hours in is miraculous. Perhaps it’s sorcery. Perhaps it’s enchantment. Regardless, it’s epic.”
VideoGamer (10/10)
“Hades 2 hits the mark with an advancement on an already powerful foundation, featuring sufficient modifications to the core to validate its existence as a distinct entity. For returning players, Hades 2 offers more than they could desire. For newcomers, it presents a refined and immensely enjoyable starting point.”
Destructoid (9.5/10)
“It appears that Hades truly initiated the trend of an abundance of action roguelikes that have followed, yet I’ve yet to encounter one that exceeds this series. Hades 2 once more fulfills the promise of the first game by enhancing its systems, including additional content, and narrating another captivating story with brilliantly portrayed and intriguing figures from Greek mythology. It’s a must-experience game, especially on the Switch 2.”
PC Gamer (88/100)
“Despite my concerns with its timing early on, Hades 2 won me over. It builds upon the original game’s imaginative perspective on Greek mythology, merging cerebral action RPG combat and sleek narrative design into a comprehensive package that feels separate from the original. I’m pleased I persevered through those initial uncertainties, as it’s as excellent a title as I’ve come to expect from Supergiant, which has yet to falter.”
VGC (4/5)
“As a sequel, Hades 2 is ambitious and presents one of the most gratifying roguelite experiences in years. However, it cannot evade the influence of its predecessor and, in attempting to incorporate every possible idea to enhance its scale, the narrative ultimately loses the studio’s signature depth.”
As we’ve noted previously, Hades 2 currently lacks a release date for Xbox, but if it mirrors the first game, we’re anticipating to wait around a year until it finally makes its Xbox appearance. That’s bound to feel like a lengthy wait!
It will be intriguing to observe how it performs in the Game of the Year awards in the meantime, as it has unexpectedly emerged as a contender alongside some truly remarkable titles. Naturally, as soon as we receive any updates regarding Hades 2 acquiring an Xbox release date, we’ll be sure to inform you here at Pure Xbox!
