What Is The Title Of The Next Xbox Console?

As things currently stand, there is no official designation for the next-gen Xbox console. Such specifics are typically disclosed much closer to the launch date, so we wouldn’t anticipate discovering a title until perhaps around a year before its debut.

You may have encountered some speculation suggesting “Xbox Prime” as the title of the new Xbox console, but this remains merely an unverified speculation – and it could even be alluding to a codename rather than a legitimate, final title.

What Has Xbox Stated Regarding A New Console Thus Far?

On June 17th of 2025, Xbox unveiled its next-gen console strategy in collaboration with AMD, emphasizing a next-generation hardware lineup that will feature consoles, PCs, handhelds, cloud services, and accessories.

As part of this announcement, it was noted that the upcoming Xbox console(s) will provide “the next wave of graphic innovation” featuring “a deeper level of visual fidelity” along with “immersive gameplay and player experiences augmented by the power of AI.” Backward compatibility was confirmed for the next Xbox console in this context as well.

“We’ve established a strategic, multi-year partnership with AMD to co-engineer silicon across a variety of devices, including our next-generation Xbox consoles. Together, we’re providing deeper visual fidelity, immersive gameplay, and AI-enhanced experiences – rooted in a platform designed for gamers, not constrained to a single store or device, and fully compatible with your existing Xbox game library.”

Xbox’s Jason Ronald also discussed some fundamental objectives for the console in an Xbox podcast episode:

“So in collaboration with AMD, we’re crafting dedicated silicon and hardware to facilitate the next generation of gaming experiences, which involves significant investment in the next generation of rendering techniques, such as neural rendering, promising a new degree of fidelity in the quality of the games you’re playing, and really enhancing the immersion between you and the gameplay experience you encounter. We’re also investing in dedicated silicon to enable the next generation of AI features that will transform how you actually experience your gameplay and also offer a new foundation that developers can leverage to create innovative experiences they’ve never been able to deliver before.”

Prior to this, the most thrilling information we received from Microsoft regarding the next Xbox console was that the company was “focused on providing the largest technological advancement ever in a generation” with its upcoming hardware.

“We’re also committed to the next generation roadmap. And our primary focus is to achieve the most significant technical advancement you have ever witnessed in a hardware generation, optimizing the experience for players and benefiting creators and the visions they are developing.”

Back in August of 2024, Xbox was notably recruiting engineers to “shape the future of graphics and game creation”, which might be connected to the upcoming console.

Xbox also experienced a significant leak some time ago that referenced plans for a “hybrid” console intended to “harness the combined power of local and cloud technologies to provide deeper immersion and entirely new types of gaming experiences.” However, this leak proved to be rather outdated, and many other disclosed plans didn’t materialize as initially scheduled, so it remains uncertain whether this hybrid concept will reach the market.

On April 4th, 2025, an exclusive glimpse at a “confidential Xbox lab” showcased where Xbox is currently working on next-gen hardware, which is anticipated to encompass the next Xbox console and possibly a next-gen Xbox handheld in the future.

Are There Any Speculations About The Upcoming Xbox Console?

Xbox indicated in its next-gen console strategy announcement with AMD that the future of Xbox hardware would “provide you an Xbox experience not confined to a single store, or restricted to one device.” It was also highlighted that Team Xbox is collaborating with the Windows team to attempt to make Windows the leading gaming platform globally.

Nothing was expressly stated about Windows specifically being a component of Xbox’s console strategy, although a significant ongoing speculation is that the next Xbox console will be “closer to Windows than ever before”. We have been hearing variations of this for a while now, and it appears to be fairly accurate based on what Microsoft has indicated thus far.

Most of the other speculations we’ve encountered have now become outdated following Xbox’s next-gen reveal on June 17th.

That being said, there has been a speculation that the console could even be cancelled, but Microsoft was swift to refute that

declaring that the company is “actively investing in our forthcoming first-party consoles and devices”.

An Xbox Magnus “leak” has generated significant interest as well, with YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead indicating that the upcoming console will be robust, quite costly, and possibly a hybrid console/PC device as suggested earlier.

Is Steam Coming To The Upcoming Xbox Console?

There have been rumors that Steam might be included in the next Xbox console at its anticipated launch in 2027. This speculation arises from the expectation that the next console will be more “PC-like” than anything previously produced by Xbox.

Indeed, a May 2025 report by Windows Central noted that Xbox had engaged in “talks” with PC storefront proprietors like Valve (the entity behind Steam), but it remained unclear if these discussions had resulted in any agreements.

There is certainly a lot of optimism regarding Steam’s presence on the next Xbox console, but nothing has been officially confirmed yet. As mentioned earlier, even Team Xbox appears to have hinted at the possibility of multiple storefronts on console, but we still lack definitive answers on this matter for now.

Is The Upcoming Xbox Console Set For 2027?

According to Windows Central’s Jez Corden, the new Xbox console has a high likelihood of being released in 2027. While it may launch sooner or later, this currently appears to be the most plausible forecast.

For context, a significant Xbox leak from a couple of years back suggested that a next-gen Xbox console would debut in 2028 at the earliest, but that leak is rather dated, and plans may have since evolved.

What Price Range Can We Anticipate For The Next Xbox Console?

It is indeed premature to determine the price of the next Xbox console, but based on the Xbox Series X and the pricing of the PS5 Pro, it would be wise to expect a launch price around $600 or even higher. Considering that the Nintendo Switch 2 is set to arrive at $500 (including Mario Kart World), it seems improbable for the upcoming Xbox console to be priced lower. Remember that in September 2025, Xbox increased the base price of the Series X to an astounding $649.

Of course, we are uncertain if the Xbox Series S will receive a successor as well, which could lead to a more affordable version of the next Xbox console being available.

Moreover, Xbox chief Phil Spencer recently pointed out that Microsoft wouldn’t expand the market by producing $1000 consoles, implying a preference to remain below that threshold. However, how low can they go? That remains the crucial question…

So, there you have it! We hope this has been a helpful guide to familiarize you with Microsoft’s strategy for the next Xbox console, and as previously noted, we will continue to update it regularly as significant information emerges.
