From Gears Ultimate to Gears Reloaded
- by Ben Kerry
With the announcement regarding Gears of War: Reloaded now circulating, we’re focusing on what specifically has been altered from 2015’s Gears of War: Ultimate Edition – highlighting the adjustments and enhancements Xbox players can look forward to in this revamped version of the original Gears of War.
As mentioned in a recent commentary on the news of this Gears re-release, the foundation of Gears: Reloaded is still rooted in a decade-old technology – yet that doesn’t imply we won’t witness numerous minor adjustments and upgrades for this iteration. Indeed, the team at Xbox Wire has outlined all the significant distinctions – which we’ll list below:
- 4K resolution
- 60 FPS in Campaign
- 120 FPS in Multiplayer
- High Dynamic Range (HDR)
- Dolby Vision & 7.1.4 Dolby Atmos
- 7.1.4 3D Spatial Audio
- Variable Refresh Rate (VRR)
- 4K assets and remastered textures
- Enhanced post-processing visual effects
- Improved shadows and reflections
- Super resolution with enhanced anti-aliasing
- No loading screens during Campaign
Delving into this list of enhancements reveals some remarkable upgrades – particularly regarding multiplayer frame rates and the assurance of “no loading screens during campaign.” Gears 5 achieved similar frame rate objectives on Xbox Series X and S, making it gratifying to see this feature adopted for Gears: Reloaded. The absence of loading screens will also be a significant advantage, leveraging systems with SSDs instead of the earlier hard drive technology, like what was used in Xbox One.
The remainder of these enhancements is fairly typical, but nevertheless appreciated. We hope Microsoft provides additional insights specifically regarding the Xbox Series S version of the game, as it currently remains uncertain if that version will support 4K resolution and 4K assets as mentioned above. What is evident is that this will offer the ultimate experience for playing the original Gears of War on Xbox, irrespective of which Series console you possess.
Which of these enhancements are you most thrilled about? Share your thoughts on Gears of War: Reloaded below.
