Gearbox Announces New, Earlier Release Date For Borderlands 4 On Xbox

Surprise!

Update []:

Just after we posted this story, Gearbox made it official that Borderlands 4 is indeed releasing on September 12th. And, as we said down below, you can tune into a new State of Play tomorrow to get more information on the upcoming Borderlands 3 sequel.

Original Story: Maybe a little earlier than first intended, Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford has announced that the team is moving the Borderlands 4 release date up by a few weeks. Yep, the upcoming sequel will now be launching for Xbox Series X|S on September 12th; a few weeks earlier than its previous late-September release date.

We say a little earlier than first intended, because, well – Pitchford’s social media clip announcing the news has since been removed from his channel. However, it’s been captured by the speedy Wario64, who’s since shared the video for us all to see:

Gearbox and 2K will presumably announce this news formally tomorrow, when a Borderlands 4-themed State of Play will go ahead in partnership with Sony. You can catch that livestream on April 30th at 2pm PT / 5pm ET / 10pm BST, featuring 20+ minutes of fresh footage.

Since the game’s formal announcement last year, the hype for Borderlands 4 feels a little low, but mid-September does seem like quite a nice release window to launch in. We’ll be tuning into tomorrow’s State of Play to see if we can be further convinced by Gearbox & 2K!

Where are you landing on BL4 so far? Talk to us about it down below.
