It’s a fantastic time to be a supporter of Frostpunk
We’ve been anticipating the transition of Frostpunk 2 from PC Game Pass to Xbox Game Pass for quite some time, but it appears the wait is nearing its conclusion, as 11 Bit Studios has revealed a new release timeframe as part of an updated roadmap.
As of today (April 24th), the Xbox release date for Frostpunk 2 has been established for Summer 2025. This marks the moment when the society survival title will finally make its console appearance, nearly a year after the PC launch in September of 2024.
But there’s more! Today, 11 Bit Studios also disclosed that Frostpunk 1886 is scheduled for release in 2027. This will be a reimagined edition of the original Frostpunk game, developed using Unreal Engine. Here is some additional insight into what players can anticipate:
“With the studio’s proprietary Liquid Engine, which once powered the original Frostpunk as well as This War of Mine, no longer in operation, the team has been in search of a new foundation to carry forward the legacy of the original game.
However, Frostpunk 1886—named to commemorate a crucial moment in the timeline of the universe, marked by the arrival of the Great Storm over New London—offers more than just a visual enhancement. It expands upon the essence of the original game, adding new content, mechanics, regulations, and—perhaps most thrillingly—an entirely new Purpose path, providing a novel experience even for veteran players.”
There’s plenty to await for Frostpunk enthusiasts! We will keep you updated as we finalize the launch date for Frostpunk 2, and in the interim, share your thoughts about your experience with Frostpunk 2 on PC Game Pass in the comments.
