Incorporating “one of the community’s most-asked-for quality-of-life tweaks”

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33—already crowned one of 2025’s finest releases on any platform—just landed a fresh patch with several welcome touches, headlined by what the developers label “a top fan-requested quality-of-life feature.”

The star of this update is the new “Battle Retry Prompt.” Now, when met with defeat, players can instantly jump straight back into the same encounter instead of trekking back to the fight. Additional neat conveniences include clearer Lumina planning tools and two distinct volume sliders—one for exploration and another for combat.

Browse every tweak further down; the team also teases “plenty more ahead.”

Below are the complete patch notes for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – Version 1.4.0:

Performance & Visuals

  • DLSS & XeSS Enhancements: Frame Generation and Low-Latency Mode are now supported (on compatible GPUs) for snappier performance and reduced input lag.

Quality of Life Improvements

  • Battle Retry Prompt: After a loss, a new prompt lets you retry the encounter immediately.

  • Lumina Cost Display: The Pictos screen now shows each ability’s Lumina cost, making forward planning easier.

  • Autoplay Dialogue: Optional auto-advance for non-cutscene dialogue—turn it on or off in Settings or on the fly.

  • Individual Volume Sliders: Split controls now let you fine-tune exploration audio separately from battle sounds.

Accessibility

  • Lune’s Stains now sport icons, aiding color-blind recognition.

Combat

  • Lune’s “Thermal Transfer” no longer grants a free turn unless its Stain threshold is met.

  • Using Second Chance alongside Healing Boon and Protecting Death can no longer render characters immortal.

Miscellaneous

  • Resolved an issue where the crystal-carrying Rocher sometimes vanished after re-entering Stone Wave Cliffs.

  • Fixed rare load-in teleports behind the Monolith.

  • Gameplay modifiers set on other save slots will no longer leak into a fresh New Game.

  • Fixed soft-lock when landing as Esquie if the rest of the squad failed to spawn.

  • Steam Deck no longer suffers heavy fog on Flying Manor obscuring the view.

Achievements

  • Journals disappearing after a save taken the very frame you collected them should no longer occur.

  • If you were affected by the issues below, load your save and these two trophies should trigger immediately:

    • Fixed “Expeditioner” and “Trailbreaker” remaining locked when a character passes level 33 or 66 mid-battle.

    • Fixed “Connoisseur” and “Follow The Trail” breaking on savefiles where all curiosities had already been gathered.

Environmental Polish

  • Numerous fixes, tweaks, and visual refinements across assorted levels to enrich immersion.

Glad to see these improvements in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33’s newest Xbox patch? Let us know in the comments.
