Embracer Group Sells Off Two Studios As Its Acquisition Spree Dies Down

Embraced no longer

A few years back, coinciding with the progression of Xbox’s Activision agreement, Embracer Group indulged in a significant spending binge, acquiring numerous studios from Square Enix and others. Significant downsizing has occurred since though, as Embracer faced challenges managing such a diverse array of teams – and now two additional studios have been divested.

Revealed in a press release today, Arc Games (the publisher behind the Remnant series) and Cryptic Studios (the creator of Neverwinter and Star Trek Online) have been divested in the latest Embracer reorganization. Embracer Group will maintain the rights to Remnant, which will be published by the subsidiary organisation THQ Nordic going forward.

Another franchise that Embracer will retain as part of this transaction is the online dungeon crawler Fellowship, previously from Arc Games. That title will be released under Embracer’s Coffee Stain label going forward – although Arc Games will remain credited as co-publisher for now.

The complete details of the business update have been disclosed in the press release link above, and you can explore it if you seek any additional intricate details on this. We must confess that some of this corporate terminology flies over our heads, but the essence is that Embracer is parting with two more of its gaming firms despite extensive acquisition attempts in recent years.
