EA Is Shutting Down Anthem, And It Won’t Be Playable Offline Either

“Anthem was crafted to be a title exclusive to online play”

EA and BioWare’s Anthem has encountered significant challenges over the last few years, with development officially ceasing in 2021, and it has now been revealed that the game will be taken offline permanently on January 12th, 2026.

An “Anthem Game Update” on the official EA platform verifies this information, with the FAQ noting that there will be no offline version available since the game “was crafted to be a title exclusive to online play”. Here’s an excerpt:

Q: How much longer will I be able to play Anthem? A: Game servers will remain active until January 12, 2026, after which the game will no longer be accessible.

Q: Why isn’t there an offline mode for Anthem? A: Anthem was crafted to be a title exclusive to online play, so once the servers are taken offline, the game will cease to be playable.

If you wish to explore Anthem as part of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate / PC Game Pass, it will continue to be available on the service (via EA Play) until August 15th of this year. All microtransactions are being eliminated as of today.

For those who weren’t following this title, Anthem was an ambitious co-op action RPG from BioWare that faced difficulties right from the start, launching to mixed feedback and disappointing sales from EA’s viewpoint. There were proposals to revamp the game back in 2020, but various circumstances including the COVID-19 pandemic halted that in February of 2021.
