Leap into (to 2005)

We just experienced a fairly relaxed weekend amidst the Xbox 360 commemorating 20 years over the past few days, and while I was personally unwinding with YouTube on Sunday evening, I stumbled upon this fantastic Digital Foundry video revealing a brand-new launch Xbox 360 from 2005.

As displayed in the video above, hosts John and Rich get all nostalgic while diving into an Xbox 360 Core model that had remained untouched for 20 years. Everything is included – from the original inserts and green packaging to the console itself and that gloriously immaculate controller.

“November 22nd signifies the 20th anniversary of Xbox 360 – the console that experienced unmatched success for Microsoft, and is closely linked with the origins of Digital Foundry itself. To mark the occasion, Rich procured an untouched Xbox 360 Core System, stored away for 20 years. John is on unboxing duty, uncovering the marvels hidden in that signature Xbox-green box, then connecting the console to a CRT to relive the 2005 launch ‘Blades’ dashboard experience.”

As the aforementioned quote indicates, this indeed implies that the legendary ‘Blades‘ dashboard is present and recognized; appearing typically sleek and efficient as the team navigates this time capsule back to 2005. Honestly, whisk us away – what an extraordinary console and what a splendid time to immerse in gaming with Xbox!

John connecting the device to a classic CRT TV was also a pleasing detail and typically on-brand for the DF Retro host; once he’d set it to PAL-60 mode it was functioning like a dream. It’s also truly quite enjoyable to witness Rich beaming throughout the entire video as the nostalgia flooded in – we felt similarly just observing it to be honest!

The Xbox 360’s 20th birthday has now passed, and while Microsoft has been rather understated about it, fans and the media have been relishing the console’s grand celebration. That includes us at Pure Xbox of course – we’ll provide links to some of our additional recent 360 content below:
