Destiny 2‘s foundational game became free-to-play several years back, yet at this point, a majority of the game can only be delved into via Bungie’s continually expanding list of expansions – which obviously entails extra paid content. Well, as of now and until Tuesday, July 22, all of those premium expansions have become free-to-play.
Indeed, the team is providing two weeks of ‘Open Access’ for all Destiny 2 players – aimed at recruiting new participants and potentially demonstrating to existing base game players why investing in some of this DLC could be beneficial in the future. Here’s how Bungie articulates its extensive free-to-play expansion offer:
“Do you have a few friends curious about Destiny, but who are uncertain about making the leap? Great news: inform them about the Destiny 2 Open Access weeks!
Starting July 8 (that’s next Tuesday) and lasting until July 22, all presently available Destiny 2 Expansions will be accessible for free on all supported platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, Microsoft Store, Epic Games Store). Moreover, all three currently offered Episodes will also be complimentary for all supported platforms until July 15.
And the icing on the cake: all currencies, gear, Titles, Triumphs, and cosmetics acquired during the Open Access duration are yours to retain.”
As shown above, the offering doesn’t merely end at those expansions either. For a slightly less accommodating period of one week (until July 15), the game’s three content ‘Episodes’ are also free-to-play for all Destiny 2 participants. These are an additional type of paid DLC that Bungie has rolled out since its last primary expansion launched in 2024.
In any case, we deemed this worth highlighting since there’s plenty of extra Destiny 2 content to relish within these premium DLC packs. The included non-vaulted expansions are as follows: Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, Lightfall, The Final Shape.
