“We must prioritize here and there”
There has been some chatter recently regarding a new game titled Absolum – we’ve noticed numerous individuals attempting to uncover information about an Xbox edition, and thus we’ve explored the game’s Discord server to understand why it is bypassing Microsoft’s console platform at launch.
If you’re unaware, Absolum is a roguelite brawler from Dotemu – the studio responsible for titles such as Streets Of Rage 4 and Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound, although Guard Crush Games and Supamonks are also acknowledged for contributing to it. It currently boasts an impressive Metacritic average of 86, but unfortunately, the launch platforms comprise only PC, PS4, PS5, and Nintendo Switch.
So what’s the situation? Well, a community manager recently shared the response on Discord, explaining to an Xbox enthusiast that the studio had to prioritize certain platforms due to the limited size of the development team.
“The team behind Absolum is about as small as our in-game resistance group. Given the team size (as with all similar projects), we must prioritize here and there. It’s quite rare for us to launch on EVERY platform, and in this instance, Xbox simply wasn’t a focus, and it’s not in our plans for THIS title.”
In a different message, another apparent team member was somewhat more straightforward about it:
“Hello. Currently, we are not planning an Xbox edition, but who knows what the future may bring.”
This is, of course, disappointing from an Xbox viewpoint, but it’s not as if Dotemu hasn’t previously brought its games to Xbox – in fact, many tend to see a release on Xbox, so this is merely an unfortunate exception to the norm.
Let’s hope the game becomes a significant success and the team sees it fit to release it on Xbox, possibly as an addition to Xbox Game Pass? We’ll have to wait and observe, but for now, you’ll need to play it on those other systems – or purchase the ROG Xbox Ally and obtain it via Steam instead!
Were you intending to purchase Absolum on Xbox? Let us know in the comments section below.
