2025’s Two Best-Reviewed Games Are Both Xbox Game Pass Titles

This month’s top 10 lineup has shifted significantly

In my recent opinion piece here at Pure Xbox, I highlighted how Xbox Game Pass is currently experiencing an incredible winning streak, delivering a plethora of amazing titles that have been released “day one” into the service over the past weeks.

But don’t just rely on my perspective! By examining the top 10 highest-rated video games of 2025 on Metacritic, it’s clear that the top two titles are both from Xbox Game Pass: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Blue Prince.

Here’s the current top 10 on Metacritic that isn’t tied to any particular platform:

  1. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (92)
  2. Blue Prince (92)
  3. Split Fiction (91)
  4. The Talos Principle: Reawakened (90)
  5. Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (89)
  6. Monster Hunter Wilds (88)
  7. Bionic Bay (87)
  8. The Roottrees Are Dead (87)
  9. Lonely Mountains: Snow Riders (87)
  10. Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition (86)

Admittedly, when sorted by Xbox alone, the rankings shift slightly—Split Fiction climbs to the second spot, while titles like Assassin’s Creed Shadows and Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth also make their appearance in the top 10. Regardless, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 and Blue Prince remain extremely well-reviewed games.

We’re also still anticipating how Oblivion Remastered performs as more reviews come in.

When we reviewed the list of upcoming Xbox releases for 2025 earlier in the year, we didn’t foresee these two Xbox Game Pass titles taking the lead by April, but it’s fantastic to observe! There’s still a lot more on the horizon, and they will encounter fierce competition, but they certainly stand as Game of the Year contenders.
