Xbox Hints at Exciting Announcement, Dousing Rumors of Handheld and “Xbox 720” Launch

No, Microsoft will never produce an “Xbox 720,” regardless of what may circulate on social media.

The Xbox UK Twitter account ignited excitement this week when it mysteriously tweeted, “Something small is coming…” alongside a video of a green meteor streaking through the sky. The post included a hashtag that reads, “ScoreMoreWithXbox.”

Despite numerous hints suggesting this wasn’t about new hardware, including the fact that it was shared exclusively on the Xbox UK Twitter account, fans were quick to speculate that it hinted at an Xbox handheld, a miniature OG Xbox, or, as a humorous take, an Xbox 720.

Fortunately, Xbox’s senior social media manager, Josh Stein, promptly set the record straight with a tweet that dismisses these theories. “Y’all please.. click on the hashtag and take a scroll before guessing it’s the Xbox 720,” Stein stated.

So, what was Xbox actually hinting at with that tweet? Well, I think even Xbox would gladly concede that it was something far less significant than an Xbox 720. If you follow Stein’s advice and take a brief scroll through the ScoreMoreWithXbox hashtag, you’ll find it’s actually related to an FC 25 giveaway that includes a controller and a custom jersey. Still exciting, just not ‘new hardware announcement imminent’ exciting.
