Xbox Highlights Unprecedented Engagement Levels as It Approaches 2025

Significant achievements have recently been accomplished

Earlier this week, Microsoft reached out to us here at Pure Xbox (and seemingly several other media outlets) to provide some context regarding an article titled “Microsoft’s Gaming Business Falls Short, Despite Activision” by a platform known as The Information.

To be honest… we have not seen that article in its entirety! It is behind a $299 paywall, so all we have observed are excerpts shared elsewhere – such as a suggestion that Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella was contemplating shutting down Xbox entirely back in 2021. This is the original story that we published on Pure Xbox:

In Microsoft’s follow-up comments, which are summarized in an “update” to the story linked above, Satya Nadella’s reference from June 2021 that the company was “fully committed to gaming” was highlighted, among other points.

Beyond this, however, the focal point turned to the current day. The most interesting statistic for us is that Xbox engagement is at an all-time high as we approach 2025 across Xbox, PC, and mobile, with the company amassing 500 million monthly gamers.

Xbox Game Pass also received a significant boost (not surprisingly) from the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 – the game’s debut set a new record for the service, featuring a remarkable number of subscriptions on its release day.

This is what Nadella had to say about these achievements a few months back in an earnings report:

We established new records for monthly active users in the quarter, as more players than ever engage with our games across devices and on the Xbox platform. Game Pass also achieved a new Q1 record for total revenue and average revenue per subscriber. Looking ahead, our IP across our studios has never been stronger. Last week’s launch of Black Ops 6 was the largest Call of Duty release ever, setting a record for day one players and Game Pass subscriber additions on launch day.

So, yes… Microsoft is definitely coming out swinging here with these figures! We are eagerly anticipating the next earnings release on January 29th, where we will learn more about how titles like Indiana Jones and the Circle, Stalker 2, and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 have impacted Game Pass in recent months, as well as console sales and the Xbox division’s growing revenue and service income.
