Matt Booty: FSR 4 is set to arrive “later this year”
- by Liam Doolan
It’s a brand-new year for Xbox, and as part of its marketing strategy expanding beyond consoles, it appears we can expect Microsoft gaming leaders to appear at more technology events in general. With this in mind, CES ’25 is currently in progress, and apart from Jason Ronald participating in the “future of gaming handhelds” discussion, Microsoft’s ‘president of game content and studios’ Matt Booty has now made an appearance during AMD’s keynote presentation.
Not only did he reaffirm what a wonderful collaborator AMD has been across “every aspect of gaming” for Xbox, but he also revealed that Activision is “proud to closely collaborate with AMD” in optimizing Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 for AMD Ryzen processors and Radeon graphics with FSR 4 “later this year”.
Here’s the full announcement:
“Technologies such as FSR and frame generation enhance some of our most demanding titles like Starfield, allowing our teams more flexibility to not only render more pixels but also to delve into richer gameplay, deeper physics modeling, and more comprehensive systems. This synergy of hardware technology – empowering our developers to achieve more, will continue with FSR 4 on the latest graphics cards, providing high-quality machine-learning upscaling to games like Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 later this year. Thank you… everyone at AMD for enabling our teams to accomplish even more.”
And indeed, while this Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 information technically applies only to PC, as The Verge’s senior editor Tom Warren highlights, it seems to be part of Xbox’s ongoing effort to brand “everything” as an Xbox moving forward:
In other updates regarding Xbox, Microsoft has also declared intentions to enhance Xbox Cloud Gaming in 2025:
What are your thoughts on Xbox’s continuous partnership with AMD to power its applications and games? What do you think about Xbox attending events like this? Let us know in the comments.
