With 97% clear opinions on Steam, Rogue Light Deck Builder is a hilarious $3 parody sport that takes its name very actually

There are 1,000,000 roguelike deckbuilders available. Video games that allow you to web and modify card decks, all presented within a cyclical roguelike framework that frequently has you perishing and rebooting with all your enhancements. Rogue Light Deck Builder is nothing special compared to the countless other roguelike deckbuilders on Steam, but significantly because it takes its title very, very, comically seriously.

How so? Well, it’s a game focused on creating a wooden deck for your abode. It’s a deck builder. And it’s not even a roguelite either – that part of the joke stems from a mischievous lightbulb that will shout out and make it more challenging for you to nail down your boards. It’s a rogue lightbulb. Here’s a glance at its straightforward humor and rhythmically-based hammering.

In the midst of sessions where you’ll want to avoid smashing your fingers, you can use some hard-earned cash for upgrades to make that light somewhat less rogue or enhance how easy it is to achieve a ‘Perfect’ hammer hit, for instance, all to satisfy your wide-eyed spouse who speaks like an alien parasite and appears as if he’s fashioned from clay.

“Freedom costs $1,000,000. Build a deck. Use your hammer. Drive in the nails. Save and conserve. Freedom lies just ahead. Upgrade your hammer, your arm, your nails. Crush a bug. Upgrade the bug. Crush it again. Repeat after me: ‘Freedom is just around the bend.’ Keep your streak alive. The light is flashing. Pay attention to your nails. Cash out. $1,000,000, keep that in mind? Step by step. Hit your hand. Dismiss the pain. Just around the corner,” reads the rather absurd Steam blurb. Leaderboard and an endless mode are also available if you desire to create decks infinitely.

Rogue Light Deck Builder indeed released months ago on itch.io, but discovered a whole new audience with this month’s Steam launch. And it’s no surprise considering it’s priced at just $3/£2 due to an ongoing discount. As of the time of this writing, the game has also managed to gather numerous Steam reviews, with 97% giving it a thumbs up.

“The physics are somewhat of a joke, but it’s the kind of joke that you and your partner can share,” one user review states. “This is the first game that truly encapsulates [Adult Swim] bumper animation energy for me, and I kind of love it for that,” another commenter expresses.
