Daredevil: Born Again has barely begun, yet fans are already speculating about what lies ahead for the escapades of everyone’s favorite horned hero after season 1. The conversation was ignited when showrunner and co-creator Dario Scardapane hinted to Empire magazine that “Unless you go really deep into the comics, the situation that Kingpin and Daredevil find themselves in at the conclusion of Season 2 is unimaginable, considering their journey.” Naturally, fan theories erupted on Reddit, with enthusiasts pointing to several key storylines captivating the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.

One fan commented, “His hint is intriguing; I wonder if they’ll explore Matt taking on the role of the new Kingpin.” Although this would be fascinating, back during Brian Michael Bendis’ run with Daredevil in 1998, the red rogue indeed assumed control of his territory after hanging an unconscious Fisk for local thugs to see how powerful he had become. This was a power shift that did not hold for long but would still create a shocking development if it were to manifest in the MCU.

Considering the tone that has been set following Foggy’s passing (Elden Henson), many fans believe that circumstances will darken even further for the blind attorney, who is already struggling as it is. One Redditor predicted, “My hunch is that season 2 will either involve an identity revelation leading into the Devil in Cell Block D adaptation or a Shadowlands adaptation where Matt takes over Hell’s Kitchen.”

Both are indeed fascinating paths that could lead Matt to spiral out of control as he struggles to maintain his grip on reality. Just to clarify, the Devil in Cell Block D storyline entails Daredevil’s secret identity becoming public, jeopardizing all his hard work as an attorney. He is then imprisoned for his vigilante actions and, as fate would have it, finds himself locked up with criminals he previously captured as Daredevil. This forces him to eventually ally with Frank Castle, who is also behind bars, as well as with Wilson Fisk himself.

The other option that might make for one of the MCU’s most daring ventures could be Shadowlands, which depicts Daredevil seizing control of The Hand Ninja clan and gradually falling victim to an unseen influence. Luke Cage, Spider-Man, Moon Knight, and others must unite to confront Matt after he goes up against Bullseye and kills him (for real this time).

For now, all we can do is sit tight and wait to see how Matt’s return to the MCU unfolds and whether it will lead him down a path as dark as some anticipate.
