Go RPG: The Sacrifice is an independent RPG currently being developed by solo creator Knight by Evening. While that’s noteworthy on its own, I believe the fact that it draws inspiration from the Souls-like genre along with influences from Checklist and Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood is what is driving its Kickstarter funding boom.
To clarify, I attribute 100% of the success to Knight by Evening for achieving 139% of their Kickstarter goal. Although I have not had the opportunity to play it yet, the trailer appears to be a heartfelt and innovative homage to the earlier Souls games, blending elements from the previously mentioned intellectual properties along with Dragon’s Dogma. I am simply trying to articulate a combination of phrases that might resonate with a broader array of fans, and I can’t think of a better way to put it than “Soulslike meets Fable with a hint of Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood,” which is considered one of the most beloved anime series of all time.
Specifically, Knight by Evening describes Go as a “classic third-person RPG,” with gameplay influenced by the Souls series and a narrative inspired by Checklist and Full Metal Alchemist. The Souls-like aspect is clearly demonstrated in the 15-minute gameplay video you can view here:
As you wander through towns like Celeste, Solemn, Narrate, and The Baltane Capital, you will eventually face off against five bosses, each known as a “Homunculus Monarch,” possessing unique alchemy and combat skills. Naturally, you’ll need to adapt your fighting strategies to defeat them. You will also scavenge through dungeons, collect loot, enhance your stats, engage in side quests, and craft items.
It’s important to note that Go has been available in Steam Early Access.
