You might also notice the former CD Projekt Red developers working on the vampire RPG The Blood of Dawnwalker, and that does seem to align well with the creators of The Witcher 3. However, a PS1-style horror game inspired by Silent Hill and Resident Evil could be quite unexpected from them.

However, this is precisely the direction that Spina Studio is pursuing. The studio is a small Polish team comprised of former Techland, CD Projekt Red, and Superhot Team developers, and they have showcased their debut title, Section Zero. The game was unveiled on the Spina Studio Twitter account, with the team describing it as “a fresh take on survival horror’s golden age, narrated through a chapter-based, dual-hero narrative.” They also indicated that players should “anticipate prerendered backgrounds, fixed cameras, and DNA reminiscent of the PSX era.”

Watch On

A single glance at the game’s trailer will give you a sense of the familiar Resident Evil atmosphere (and I mean that quite literally; some of these environments are truly unsettling). While we’ve only been given a brief 50-second glimpse at the game, it already seems very promising and captures the right vibe. Although most of it feels like a nostalgic nod to Capcom‘s classics, there is also a significant influence from Silent Hill, with its narrow hallways and glimpses of intimidating foes.

In a press kit discovered on the

sport’s web map, Spina Studio has unveiled an additional glimpse into the terrifying experiences that await us. The game is set in the coastal town of Flint Height, where “a mysterious ailment is rapidly spreading, leaving most of the town’s inhabitants horrifyingly altered.” We are also introduced to our pair of main characters, “Mary, a newcomer reporter in Flint Peak, and Guy, a wounded engineer.” The unsettling atmosphere hinted at in the trailer is only enhanced by the developers stating, “Horrific, cancerous creatures slither through the streets of Flint Peak. Flesh overgrowths invade buildings, and meat bursts from the piping. Empty shells of human skin clutter the avenues.”

At present, the game is exclusively confirmed for a PC release (via Steam), with the trailer indicating that a demo is forthcoming “soon.” However, there is no specified launch date, so players might be waiting a while before encountering the terrors of Flint Height.

In other eerie game news, Nonetheless Hill f has been prohibited in Australia in its latest form, with no justification provided for its ‘refused classification’ status.
