Warner Bros. Video games reportedly cancels expanded converse for Hogwarts Legacy
Unrevealed DLC and definitive edition purportedly abandoned “as part of ongoing reorganization”
Warner Bros. Games has reportedly stopped an unannounced expansion for Hogwarts Legacy set to launch later this year.
This information comes from Bloomberg, with sources informing the publication that the paid DLC and a definitive edition of the game were terminated “as part of ongoing reorganization.”
Sources mentioned to Bloomberg that the project was supposedly cancelled because the discussion was “not significant enough to justify the investment being assessed.”
Warner Bros. chose not to comment to Bloomberg regarding the alleged expansion.
Insider Gaming claimed that the DLC was believed to include between ten to 15 hours of new quests and activities.
In a letter to shareholders following its latest financial results, Warner Bros. described 2024 as a “disappointing year” for its gaming division. Revenue for Warner Bros. Games declined by 29% year-on-year during its fourth quarter.
Before its Q4 report, it executed a restructuring plan resulting in the closure of three studios – Monolith Productions, Player First Games, and Warner Bros. San Diego. Monolith’s forthcoming Wonder Woman project was subsequently cancelled.
The company characterized its restructuring plan as an opportunity “to refocus [its] resources and capital on established IP and titles from reputable, world-class studios.”
It further stated: “We are concentrating our gaming business around four key franchises that have each generated $1 billion in revenue.”
