“Veteran Game Developers Unite for a Groundbreaking Sci-Fi Shooter Set in a Dystopian Latin America”
More than 110 experienced developers from the Metro series have come together to form a new studio called Reburn, launching their first project – La Quimera – a sci-fi shooting game set in Latin America, co-written by Pressure director Nicolas Winding Refn.
The details of the announcement have led to some confusion due to ongoing rebranding efforts; however, Reburn definitely appears to be a new offshoot of Metro developer sub-studio 4A Games, based in Ukraine, breaking away from 4A Games’ Malta headquarters to establish its distinct identity. Meanwhile, the original 4A Games team continues working on a new IP and the next Metro installment.
Reburn comprises over 110 seasoned Metro developers, including gameplay designers, artists, sound technicians, and programmers, all under the leadership of former 4A Games Ukraine CEO Dmytro Lymar. Their initial project is sci-fi FPS La Quimera, which promises “intense gunplay and rich storytelling” in a futuristic Latin American metropolis and lush jungle environment.
In La Quimera, players can either embark on solo missions or join forces cooperatively with up to two companions, stepping into the customizable exosuit of a down-on-their-luck PMC soldier battling against competing factions. The game emphasizes “unique and intricately designed environments, characters, and weaponry,” all set in a world and narrative crafted by Nicolas Winding Refn (Pressure, Only God Forgives, The Neon Demon) alongside E.J.A. Warren.
