US Xbox Series X|S Console Sales Plunge Nearly 30% Compared to Last Year

Distinctive data from Circana

It may not be the best news to hear, but recent U.S. statistics from the analyst company Circana indicate that sales of the Xbox Series X|S consoles have decreased by almost 30% compared to last year.

The latest data focuses on hardware sales for November 2024 in comparison to November 2023, during which Xbox Series X and S sales have declined by 29%. In comparison, the Nintendo Switch has seen a decrease of just 3%, while PS5 console sales have risen by 15% compared to the same period last year.

On a somewhat more positive note for Microsoft, this Circana data also shows that Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is the top-selling game in its category for November 2024, which might not come as a surprise since the data covers all release platforms. For the entirety of 2024, Black Ops 6 is currently only outperformed by EA Sports College Football 25, which was released in July.

Nevertheless, this recent decline in console sales comes at a time when Microsoft is marketing Xbox as more than just a console, making it disheartening to see the hardware figures fall so significantly.
