Destiny 2’s new dungeon, Sundered Doctrine, is set to launch, unveiling new secrets and strategies, a new Exotic weapon, and a new chapter of the story featuring Savathun, Rhulk, and the Darkness.
This new dungeon will take players back to Savathûn’s Throne World as they infiltrate the Pyramid Ship of their former adversary Rhulk, who was last seen in the Vow of the Disciple raid. Although Rhulk may be gone, players can expect some shocking surprises awaiting them inside his ship. Additionally, the most skilled players in the game are invited to participate in a competitive race to complete Sundered Doctrine’s Contest Mode, which features heightened difficulty and a significantly greater challenge than the standard settings.
In anticipation of Sundered Doctrine’s release, we have gathered this information to cover everything you might want to know about the race, including how to enter, what to expect, and what must be accomplished to earn the ultimate prize for this event.
In perhaps the latest teaser trailer for Sundered Doctrine, we get a brief glimpse of what’s ahead. As a squad of Guardians navigates through the maze of Rhulk’s pyramid, fresh dialogue from Savathun is revealed, beckoning the Guardians to “play a game,” and teasing them with new insights concerning the Darkness and the Pyramid itself. Right at the very end of the trailer, we are introduced to a brand-new boss, seemingly a member of the Darkness, wielding a peculiar device and bursting with Strand energy. While we don’t have full clarity on what this boss is or what its abilities entail, it marks our first encounter with a new Darkness enemy.
When is Sundered Doctrine launching?
Sundered Doctrine will debut on Friday, February 7 at 9 AM PT / 12 PM ET. During the initial 48 hours, players will compete in a race to be the first to complete Sundered Doctrine in the more challenging Contest Mode. This time, only one fireteam will emerge victorious, and the competition will conclude as soon as someone accomplishes that goal.
What are the requirements for entering Sundered Doctrine’s Contest Mode?
Throughout the initial 48 hours following the launch of Sundered Doctrine, any fireteam consisting of three players can enter Contest Mode as long as all team members are at 1995 Power Level or higher. All team members must also possess The Final Shape Dungeon Key and complete The Drowning Labyrinth quest prior to entering Sundered Doctrine.
How can players successfully finish Sundered Doctrine’s Contest Mode?
It would be an understatement to say this will require teamwork, as the only way to conquer Sundered Doctrine’s Contest Mode is for each member of the fireteam to have completed and acquired loot for every encounter. Moreover, this must be the first time each team member has completed their respective encounters.
Assuming players make it past the final encounter of Sundered Doctrine, they must loot the final chest to officially record their victory. However, this will not come easily, as Contest Mode presents an exceptionally high challenge level with tougher enemies and a mechanic that limits the number of attempts or the time players have left to finish it. Having a Power Level higher than 1995 will not provide a significant advantage, as that is typically the cap for all players in this contest. There will also be limited resurrection tokens available during encounters.
Rewards for Sundered Doctrine’s Contest Mode
The players on the winning fireteam will receive a distinctive emblem and a guaranteed drop of an Exotic weapon. However, Bungie has yet to disclose details about which Exotic weapon will be available in Sundered Doctrine.
What new loot can players expect in Sundered Doctrine?
Players can look forward to obtaining a brand-new set of armor for each class exclusive to the dungeon, along with a fresh array of weapons. The weapons, based on community leaks, include a scout rifle, a trace rifle, and others.
