The Lunar Remastered Series features upgraded editions of Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete and its sequel, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue Complete.

Both titles showcase enhanced visuals, improved audio, fresh English localizations, and gameplay adjustments like optional battle speed boosts to make the classic RPGs more user-friendly.

The Amazon-exclusive physical editions will contain reversible cover art featuring both Lunar and Lunar 2, illustrated by series artist and anime creator Toshiyuki Kubooka.

This compilation appears to be an exceptional way to experience two of the most significant RPGs from the 16-bit and 32-bit console generations. The original Lunar: Silver Star Story is regarded as a pivotal title in the Japanese RPG history and was among the first console RPGs to include voice acting, animated cutscenes, and CD-quality music due to the Sega CD platform. It was subsequently remade for PS1 and Sega Saturn as Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete, which is the version included in the Lunar Remastered Series. Its follow-up, Lunar 2: Eternal Blue, also launched on PS1 and Saturn, building upon the gameplay and narrative presentation of its predecessor, incorporating much more voice dialogue and a larger cast.

While voice acting, cutscenes, and high-quality soundtracks are now common elements in video games, they were revolutionary at the time—though both the voice performances and the English localization are indeed known for their inconsistent quality. Nevertheless, the new Remastered Series brings modern English text and voice acting for both games. Although the new English voice tracks replace the originals, the Lunar Remastered collection allows players to opt for the Japanese voice acting as an alternative. Additionally, you can switch between the new enhanced visuals or the PS1 graphics for both titles.

The Lunar series is not the only classic RPG franchise receiving long-awaited remasters this year. Konami’s RPGs Suikoden 1 and 2 are also making a return with the Suikoden 1 & 2 HD Remaster set to release soon, and the cult classic Tales of Graces f will also have a remaster available on consoles and PC on January 17, with preorders currently open.
