We are nearly three months in, and we have yet to see a single Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game scheduled for Switch in 2025 — which, following the trio we acquired last year, feels like quite a stretch. One that we hope to see come along eventually, however, is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown, an upcoming turn-based game by developer Distinctive Scaffold (Sunshine Shuffle, An Airport for Aliens Currently Run by Dogs) that is set to rollout on PC on May 22nd.

You read that right, Tactical Takedown allows the Turtles to engage in turn-based action. Battling against familiar heroes in a half-shell hack-and-slash style, Distinctive Scaffold’s forthcoming release focuses more on strategy rather than mere slashing. In this game, you can assist Leo, Raph, Donnie, and Mikey on a quest to take down the Foot Clan (what are the odds?), featuring a campaign for each character.

The gameplay is primarily grid-based, but the Turtles possess their own unique methods of navigating the battlefield — Raph can inflict damage on clusters of enemies, Donnie can unleash wrath with drones, you get the idea — all presented in a tabletop-like visual style that subtly pays tribute to the comics.

Sure, perhaps we’re just being optimistic, but the relatively simple visuals and strategic gameplay lead us to believe that this one could fit perfectly on Switch. The console has solidified its reputation as a stronghold for turn-based titles in the past, and it’s certainly no stranger to one or two TMNT games.
