Unveiling Heartbreak: The Hidden Arcane Season 2 Easter Egg That Elevates the Finale

Arcane season 2 concluded yesterday, leaving many of you bleary-eyed, but did you notice this subtle Easter Egg?

Be cautious, as there are significant spoilers for the conclusion of Arcane ahead, so only continue reading if you’ve finished it.

In the final episode of Arcane act 3, we observe Jinx in tears, her eyeshadow streaming down her face. The lightning trails left across her cheek form the letters IV, representing the number four, but if you invert the image, it spells out Vi. I’m not crying, you might be.

This clever Easter Egg was pointed out by GlobzTheJanitor on Reddit, to which FirstNegotiation9659 commented, “If I received a nickel for every time Jinx wept the name Vi, I’d possess two nickels. Which may not be much, but it’s painful and heartbreaking that it happened twice. (In Episode 5 of Arcane, her tears from top to bottom also form Vi).”

This kind of detail illustrates that every cent of the $250 million budget was well spent. It’s not the biggest or most crucial detail, yet it adds depth to the series that wouldn’t have been present if the animators had been hurried. As showrunner Linke remarks, the series was “risky”, but ultimately, the investment proved worthwhile.

Another Reddit user noted that IV, or four, is considered an unlucky number in Chinese superstition. This is because in Cantonese, the pronunciation of the number four is similar to the word for ‘death.’ And, as we all witnessed, Jinx likely perished while saving her sister Vi, falling and triggering a monkey bomb to defeat Warwick.

We don’t actually see her die, so she might still be alive, and we know there will be more League of Legends series on the way, so hopefully, we will see more of her in the future.
