Parkour has constituted a fundamental component of the Assassin’s Creed series since the beginning, yet Assassin’s Creed Shadows will introduce some modifications to the acrobatic running style. Ubisoft has already indicated that Naoe—one of Shadows’ new principal characters—can perform Naruto runs in the game. However, that’s just the beginning of her abilities while sprinting.

Ubisoft has provided a detailed overview of Shadows’ new parkour options, including the revamped button layout for the game. One of the most notable changes is the swapping of the crouch and dodge buttons, which will enable players to either crouch down or lie in a prone position. Naoe can eliminate her objectives while in a prone stance.

Yasuke—the game’s other main character—and Naoe can both execute dodges while crouching, but only Naoe can perform a dodge when lying prone. Additional new parkour maneuvers that Naoe can execute include a wall-run ejection and a backward dodge, which you can also see presented below.

Many fundamental parkour and climbing actions can be performed by both Yasuke and Naoe, though she is better suited for these tasks due to her agility and capability to execute a recovery roll when falling.

The developers also pointed out that not every wall in the game will be climbable for either character. The grappling hook will assist players in navigating some of these areas, but they will still need to search for surfaces that provide physical handholds to grasp.

For those players who do not wish to engage in romances or diverging narrative paths, Shadows will feature a Canon Mode, which will make the significant story choices for you. Shadows will also offer a fresh direction for the contemporary storyline. Some details regarding the game’s combat pass have surfaced online, and Ubisoft has confirmed that the rewards in the Animus Hub will be complimentary.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows is scheduled to launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on February 14, 2025.
