Unexpected Expansion: Lil Gator Sport’s Huge DLC Surprises Fans

Lil Gator Game launched at the end of 2022 and has proven its staying power since, becoming one of the coziest indie games reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda classics like Wind Waker – and soon, it’s expanding even further with an unexpected addition.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time with Lil Gator Game to the extent that I’ve been scouring Steam for another game that matches its charm and wholesome vibe, but my search might finally be at an end. Developer MegaWobble just announced the brand-new DLC, In the Dark, and it sounds absolutely amazing. The “major DLC expansion” as the studio refers to it features an exciting new underground area to explore alongside numerous additional features.

Once it launches, In the Dark is set to include “a new storyline, new items to interact with, new friends to meet,” and much more. MegaWobble expresses that the developers are “extremely excited,” but I would wager that fans are even more thrilled. After all, the announcement seems to have come quite suddenly, with many commenters calling it “a delightful surprise.” For committed players aiming to achieve 100% completion, there’s even more positive news.

MegaWobble confirms based on a fan response that “yeah, likely,” new achievements are in development as well – and from the looks of In the Dark’s page on Steam, there will definitely be plenty of opportunities for achievements to fit into this expansion. It strikes me much like a Wind Waker-inspired take on areas from other games like Baldur’s Gate 3‘s personal Underdark – featuring lush vines, cascading waterfalls, and stunning, vibrant light sources.

It seems that Lil Gator Game maintains its charm in the DLC as well, introducing new creatures to discover and engage with, such as a fluffy bear and a cunning pig. Personally, I can hardly wait to get my hands on this expansion, though a release date has yet to be announced. Fellow fans on PC can now add In the Dark to their wishlist on Steam, while it will also be available soon on the Nintendo Switch eShop, the PlayStation Store, and Xbox.
