Turok: Dinosaur Hunter Makes a Roaring Return on Xbox Series X|S

By on March 1, 2025 0 8 Views

There could have very well been all sorts of surprises for the Xbox today, and it appears the trend continues in March with a port of Turok: Dinosaur Hunter for Xbox Series X and S.

As you may already be aware, this title was previously available through an Xbox One version that was released in 2018. However, this complimentary upgrade introduces several enhancements—seemingly including 120FPS support according to the Xbox Store.

If you’re interested, the game is currently heavily discounted for Xbox Game Pass members, dropping from its original price of £15.99 / $19.99 to just £4.79 / $5.99.

In addition, Nightdive Studios has released an update across all platforms filled with new features, menu options, bug fixes, and enhancements. Below is the complete rundown from the developer’s subreddit page:

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (March 1st, 2025)

NEW FEATURES

  • Optimized renderer for Vulkan and Nintendo Switch.
  • Support for high refresh rates.
  • Ported to Series X and PS5.
  • Enhanced gamepad performance and vibration support.
  • Localized Achievements/Trophies.
  • The Brachiosaurus from a Turok beta ROM has been discovered and restored. Expect to see these dinosaurs roaming in the Treetops level.
  • You can now switch ammo types for the Tek Bow and Shotgun whenever you like, just like in Turok 2.
  • The Sprint/Walk toggle button has been added from the original game. By moving at walking speeds on the ground, you can get closer to enemies from behind before they notice you.
  • You can now assign multiple weapons to the same button to alternate between them.
  • Restored the High Monks’ homing blue magic attack and the Purlins’ unused jump melee attack.
  • Restored the Gallery cheat code, allowing you to view the Bosses and Turok. You can also preview animations for all enemies.
  • You can reset menu options to default using the “Reset to Defaults” menu choice.
  • The Input Bindings menus now display icons instead of text.
  • Added bindings in the Motion Bindings menu for Changing Ammo Type and Sprint Toggle.
  • Controller Options: Button Prompts (PC), Aim Smoothing, Southpaw (Stick), Enable Vibration and Intensity, Dead Zones.
  • Gameplay Options: Radial Fog, Player Shadow, Enable Sprint Toggle, Enable Alternate Ammo
  • Head Bobbing Options: Added strafing and jumping bobbing options and you can now adjust the extent of tilt for each bobbing option.
  • HUD Options: Auto-map Show Player, Auto-map Show Compass, Display All Health Stats (Shows health when you have Armor), Display Alternate Ammo, Flash Intensity, Shake Intensity, Horizontal Positioning of the HUD.
  • Graphic Options: Always Show Lens Flares, Antialiasing: SMAA, FXAA, FXAA Fast, Off
  • Audio Options: Master Volume, Audio Output, Low-Frequency Filtering, Enable Underwater Music, Ambient Environmental Sounds
  • Video Options: Switch between Vulkan and Direct3D (PC)
  • Save game file names are now localized. The most recent save file is marked in green. The date format is now yyyy/mm/dd hh:mm:ss.

FIXES & IMPROVEMENTS

  • Enhancements made to the font.
  • Fixed certain textures skipping the first frame.
  • Enemies that have been blown into the air can now fall off cliffs and float/sink in water.
  • Fixed the red and orange Assault Robots to reduce their oversized melee hit radius and eliminated their random explosion trigger during certain animations.
  • Reduced the frequency of enemy teleportation, and their animation has been improved to prevent any visual popping at the start of animation.
  • Enemies that can be triggered can no longer be damaged or killed.
  • Improvements made to enemy head tracking.
  • Simplified shadows now consider fog when drawn. Fixed shadows that briefly appear when enemies fall from the sky. Fixed shadows drawing over other shadows.
  • The Purlins’ melee attacks no longer play ambient bird sounds.
  • Enemies no longer freeze in place while transitioning from their initial animation to a root movement animation.
  • Enemies are no longer removed from the game if they can respawn when the player moves away from them.
  • Enemy grenades can now affect more surface types instead of merely disappearing upon impact.
  • Bosses are now affected by the game’s environment and have a damage modifier similar to regular enemies, to test the updated version.
  • Humvee can no longer be pushed back when damaged, and it should now appropriately restore its death animation when respawning in the field. The Humvee can also be knifed again allowing (glitch-free) knife-only playthroughs. The wheels no longer spin indefinitely when destroyed, and certain sound file paths have been corrected with underscores instead of single quotes.
  • Fixed Longhunter from taking damage during his non-combat states.
  • Restored Campaigners’ standard behavior regarding weapons that can harm him and what weapons are removed from the player. You will also now see your weapons being taken from you and destroyed.
  • Arrows will now fire from the correct player height when crouching.
  • Restored crucial arrow shot probability for enemies to incur Mortal Wounds. Additionally, only enemies that had the “Teleport Avoid Cliffs” spawn flag set can be hit by a severe arrow shot. This was corrected to trigger when the “Mortal Wound Impact” flag is activated.
  • Restored Quad-Rocket Launcher standard ammo usage to 4 and max ammo to 24 (48 with backpack).
  • Particle Accelerator/Shockwave weapon can now freeze defeated enemies similar to the original and also works on beetles, robots, and turrets.
  • Dealing direct hits to defeated enemies with the Tek Bow and Shotgun explosive shells will now blow enemies away.
  • Exiting water from the side will now re-equip your previous weapon.
  • Fixed enemy related issues.
