The year 2024 is over – and you think you have made your selections. The diverging storylines of this year have been established, your dialogue choices were finalized, and your conclusion is prepared.

Thank you to all who participated in the voting this year in what ultimately resulted in a definitive triumph for your top choice. Your second choice was also immensely favored, by the way – and when combined, the scores of these two titles matched the rest of your top 10.

Eurogamer’s own compilation of our staff’s favorite games of 2024 will be available tomorrow, but today is dedicated to your selections. Thank you once more for sharing yours with us, and remember – if you disagree, you can only hold yourselves accountable. Enjoy!

The character animations are just impressively good. One specific scene featuring two characters by a fireplace showcases the finest video game animation I’ve witnessed.”

38. Hades 2 Early Access

“How does Supergiant manage this?” asked jackgaydon. “I anticipated something akin to the initial scope of Hades’ early access, yet there was already a game larger than its fully developed predecessor! 32. Sonic x Shadow Generations

“The Shadow segment of this game does for 3D Sonic what Mania accomplished for 2D Sonic,” remarked 2much. “It feels like the perfection of the formula. The level design is among the finest Sonic Team has ever constructed, and the game’s mind-bending visuals make it arguably the coolest-looking game on the PS5. The sole reason it doesn’t rank higher on my list is its brevity.”

31. Kunitsu-Gami: Path of the Goddess

I can’t recall playing a game that evoked such a feeling.”

    15. UFO 50

“Probably the most imaginative ‘creation’ in a long time, UFO 50 not only showcases its creators’ astounding diversity but also illustrates how to weave a metanarrative through the sparsest details,” a reader stated. “Many of the individual games are immensely enjoyable and some could have been classics if they were released in the 80s (or even the 90s).”

“The deal of the year,” remarked retr0gamer. “Even weeks later, I haven’t completely explored this collection of games. It’s perpetually surprising, and the quality remains high throughout.” Erwie acknowledged, “Party House alone would claim the top spot for 2024.”

    12. The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom

“What if we took the quicker-paced framework of Link’s Awakening, infused it with Breath of the Wild-like mechanics, and set it in the realm of A Link to the Past?” pondered Fallout2. “Plus, you can play as Zelda. It’s a tad more chatty than I’d prefer, but enjoyable, inventive, and isn’t afraid to throw in a few challenging puzzles.”

“Of all the games I’ve experienced in 2024, this is the one that lingers in my thoughts,” reflected KinanEldari. “Echoes of Wisdom not only introduced Zelda as a playable character but also provided fantastic mechanics, excellent dungeons filled with engaging puzzles, a solid storyline, and several enjoyable collect-a-thons—unlike the exasperating 900 Korok seeds from Breath of the Wild! If you cherish Zelda games as much as I do, you owe it to yourself to give this one a try.”

    11. Thank Goodness You Are Here!

“It’s quite short, distinctively northern, and primarily about hitting everything until something occurs,” remarked Madame-Drofla. “It also provided some of my most unforgettable and ridiculous gaming moments of the year. I laughed incessantly, and I would recommend it to anyone familiar with its very British humor.” H1ppyDave shared, “‘Peans – neither peas nor beans, but something special in between.’ A phrase my 10-year-old and I frequently quote since playing. It’s an absolute delight.”

“Some of the funniest hours of gaming I’ve ever experienced,” stated Omgokami. “I still don’t miss Yorkshire, but those moments linger.” Mycrofty concluded: “It’s original, hilarious, beautiful—everything the current gaming scene isn’t; it’s neither cozy nor edgy. It’s simply brilliant.”

    10. Stellar Blade

“This was the biggest surprise of the year and probably the most enjoyable game,” wrote Col_McCafferty. “Exceptional combat, an intriguing narrative, and a fantastic soundtrack. Shift Up has done a remarkable job, especially considering this is their inaugural single-player offering on console.”

“There’s an important discussion to be had regarding sex and violence in game design,” added PixelPundit. “Stellar Blade intertwines these aspects in a captivating fashion that maintains player interest.”

“Games, where one is lazily waved through while increasingly the other is halted at the entrance with an especially disapproving glare, but this isn’t the right forum for it,” expressed MarcusJ. “Stellar Blade is an incredibly enjoyable and bountiful (both in terms of content and extra bonuses post-launch) game that deserves the highest commendation. It is arguably the most genuine fun I’ve had playing a game in years. Unfortunately, it has not received nearly enough acknowledgment as a fresh intellectual property.”

    9. Dragon Age: The Veilguard

Image credit: Eurogamer / EA BioWare

“After nearly a decade, I’d forgotten just how much I craved a new Dragon Age title,” said Greenllama88. “Fortunately, it took less than a couple of hours of playing The Veilguard to remind me why I adore this universe and how magnificent it can be with such a bold style and vision. When the outside world is spiraling out of control, it feels wonderful to stay inside and tackle problems that seem far more manageable.”

“The final act is superb,” noted Boooo_urns. “It has its flaws, but overall the gameplay is enjoyable and the narrative is compelling.” Acknowledged pierrot: “The action combat is wonderfully responsive and expressive, along with stunning environments to explore.” Another reader contributed: “A long-awaited sequel to one of my cherished series that truly did not let me down (even if it’s not quite Dragon Age: Origins – but what is?).”

    8. Helldivers 2

“A game that genuinely becomes more entertaining the more chaotic you are at it,” wrote The12thMonkey. “When everything descends into madness and you’re sprinting for your life, hurriedly inputting the reinforcement sequence, only to accidentally crash the drop pod onto your own head, and yet it remains enjoyable? That’s quality design.”

“Not necessarily a fresh approach to multiplayer gaming but one that redefines the genre of PVE,” added Peter McNally. “It feels like a creative sandbox but with clear objectives, and if you crank up the difficulty, it turns into a frenetic chaos.”

    7. Silent Hill 2 Remake

“Like everyone else, I was concerned the game wouldn’t meet expectations,” said LemyAtom. “I was amazed when they far exceeded them. I nearly $h!t myself in Toluca Prison and had to limit my play sessions to 45-minute intervals for a while. Absolutely terrifying.”

Mark1412 concurred: “The utterly brutal and suffocating prison level, experienced with headphones and the lights dimmed, completely redefined survival horror for me. It was horrifying. After I completed it, I told myself I wouldn’t forget it, nor would I rush to play it again. Yet a week later, I finished it once more.”

    6. Animal Well

    “I’ll admit I’m
