In contrast to the traditional Xbox model
Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 was unveiled this week with a July launch window for Xbox Game Pass, and the overall reception seems to be developing exceptionally well for the most part – although there is a divisive change regarding THPS4.
It has been validated by Activision to Kotaku that THPS4 will not feature its classic career mode in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4; instead, it will implement the 2-minute time format that was introduced in the first three games of the series.
This confirms that THPS4’s career mode will incorporate a two-minute limit in the new game:
“Kotaku was able to confirm with Activision that THPS 3+4 will not include the original career mode seen in the classic version of THPS4 on the PS2. Instead, like in the first three games, each THPS4 level will feature a list of challenges to accomplish in a 2-minute session.”
As you might remember, the original version of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 4 which launched on the original Xbox was notable for being the first to eliminate the 2-minute time constraint back in the day, choosing instead to create an open environment where you could interact with NPCs and take on their tasks. This ultimately paved the way for a new direction that the series would follow for many years.
Unfortunately, Activision seems to believe it was too complicated to bring the original THPS4 marketing campaign into this new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3+4 remake / remaster, so we will have to wait and see how the 2-minute limit performs in this latest installment.
