Earlier this week, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 received an update that hinted at the comeback of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. In a skatepark layout known as The Grind, there appears to be a banner featuring the THPS logo alongside the date “03.04.25.” Furthermore, the official website for Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater features a countdown timer set for March 4, 2025, suggesting an impending announcement.
The original Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater game was launched by Activision in September 1999. Although the 25th anniversary has come and gone, Hawk shared last year that he has been in discussions with Activision about commemorating that significant milestone. Hawk later affirmed that the long-running franchise will endure.
If news is on its way regarding the future of THPS, there are two likely possibilities. The first option is another remake akin to 2020’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2, which revitalized interest in the series. There have been some expectations that Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3 + 4 might be in development. However, a more exciting possibility would be an entirely new Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater. The last completely original game in the series to launch on consoles was 2015’s Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 5. Furthermore, there was a previous report indicating that the next Tony Hawk game might be released as early as this summer. Given the timing of the announcement, that seems quite plausible.
Former Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick recently mentioned that Hawk was living in his car at the time he negotiated the deal for the first Pro Skater game. Hawk has undoubtedly moved on to better accommodations since that time, but we are eager to discover where the gaming series can advance using the full capabilities of the latest generation consoles.
