Setting aside turtles for a moment, Splinter and Shredder might be the most legendary figures in the TMNT franchise, yet this does not concern developer Strange Scaffold as they eliminate them in the introduction to their forthcoming turn-based adventure game.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tactical Takedown is a turn-based beat-em-up spotlighting the titular turtles, being crafted by Strange Scaffold, an indie team responsible for the release of various recent gems like El Paso, Elsewhere and I Am Your Beast. In a video shared on Twitter, the game’s creative director Xalavier Nelson Jr. enthusiastically discussed the game, particularly focusing on the fate of Splinter and Shredder.

NOT ONLY IS STRANGE SCAFFOLD DEVELOPING A TMNT GAME, NOT ONLY IS IT A TURN-BASED BEAT-EM-UP BUT THEY ALLOW ME TO TAKE DOWN SPLINTER AND SHREDDER BEFORE THE FIRST LINE OF DIALOGUE—SO WE CAN NARRATE THE STORY OF WHAT FOLLOWS. THIS IS TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES: TACTICAL TAKEDOWN.…AHHHHHHHHH pic.twitter.com/lxQrxvjQauDecember 5, 2024

“Not only is Strange Scaffold crafting a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles game, but I am also the creative director of that TMNT game, and they permit me to defeat Splinter and Shredder,” Nelson joyfully shares, “and then narrate what could happen next for one version of the turtles as they transition into adulthood.”

Following this, we are treated to a couple of images of the game—a grid-based strategic game paying tribute to the likes of Into the Breach, yet infused with a lively, humorous narrative style to imbue some of that essential TMNT essence into the game. Unfortunately, although the game has been announced, there is still no information regarding the release date, so if you were looking for some tactical TMNT excitement in the near future, it appears you are regrettably out of luck.

Meanwhile, why not
